1. Negotiate the taxi fare before you get in.
2. Angry Vietnamese taxi drivers can scare you into giving them anything they want.
2. There is no need to mime opera in order to explain that you need to be dropped near the theatre that is showing the opera.
3. It's not that scary crossing the road once you've done it once or twice.
4. Our family is indeed a freak show.
I've included the links to our traffic videos. Can't seem to load the actual video from YouTube as it hasn't been on there long enough. The first video is taken from inside the angry taxi driver's car. I had the conversation he has on the phone during the taxi ride transcribed for me and he is actually saying something along the lines of "I give you a bet I can scare this lady into giving me any amount I ask for this fare." In actual fact he did just that. The Vietnamese language actually sounds like a machine gun when it is yelled loud and fast at your face. I gave him everything I had in my wallet for the 5km journey. Amounted to around $35 Australian. More than I would ever have paid in Australia! My daughter was so disgusted with me that she has demanded complete control over any further money negotiations.
Off to the Mekong today. Have included a photo of the town Can Tho where we will be going. Our accommodation is going to take a bit dive. Going cheap from now on in order to make up for the money I've lost in taxi fares.
